Leasing basics

What is a car lease?

A lease is a long-term rental. You pay to drive the car for a set period, usually 24 to 48 months, instead of buying it outright. At the end of the term you return it, buy it, or move into a new lease.

How is leasing different from buying?

Leasing: lower monthly payments, a newer car every few years, and less long-term commitment.

Buying: higher payments, but you own the car, there is no mileage limit, and you build equity over time.

Leasing suits people who want a new, reliable car more often and want to avoid a large upfront cost.

How long does a lease last?

Most leases run 24, 36 or 48 months. Some brands offer flexible terms or short-term programs, depending on the model.

Can I lease any car?

Nearly every major brand offers leasing, from economy models to luxury makes like BMW, Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche.

What is included in my lease payment?

A lease payment typically covers:

  • The car's depreciation over the term
  • The lender's rent charge (the interest)
  • Taxes
  • Any applicable fees
  • Incentives, when they apply

We break down every number so you see exactly what you're paying for.

Costs, payments and fees

How are monthly lease payments calculated?

The payment is built from:

  • MSRP (the sticker price)
  • The negotiated selling price
  • The residual value (what the car is worth at the end of the lease)
  • The money factor (the lease's interest rate)
  • The lease term, in months
  • The mileage allowance
  • Incentives or rebates

A lower selling price and a higher residual value mean a lower monthly payment.

What is due at signing?

Depending on how the lease is structured, this can include:

  • The first month's payment
  • Taxes and fees
  • Registration
  • The bank's acquisition fee
  • A down payment, if you choose to make one

Depending on your credit and the program, a zero-down structure may be available.

Are there hidden charges in leasing?

No. We explain every fee before you sign, in writing, so there are no surprises.

Do you charge a fee?

No. Miami Auto Co does not charge you a fee. The number we quote is the number you pay, with every line explained before you sign.

Mileage and wear

What mileage options do I have?

Most leases offer 10,000 to 15,000 miles per year, with options for more if you need them. Some luxury brands offer 7,500-mile plans for people who drive less.

What if I go over my mileage?

Excess mileage is charged at a per-mile rate set by the manufacturer. To avoid a surprise at the end, we can:

  • Increase your mileage allowance up front
  • Pre-pay extra miles at a discounted rate
  • Talk through your lease-end options
What counts as "excess wear and tear"?

Normal wear is allowed. Charges can apply for:

  • Major scratches
  • Dents larger than a credit card
  • Cracked glass
  • Tire damage
  • Stains or tears inside the car

We can prepare you for the inspection and help keep any costs down.

End of lease

What are my options at the end of my lease?

You can:

  • Return the car
  • Buy it at its residual value
  • Trade it in toward a new lease
  • Extend the lease, if the lender allows it

We walk you through the smoothest and most cost-effective choice.

What happens during a lease inspection?

A certified inspector reviews the car's condition, mileage and wear, and you get a detailed report. We help you prepare beforehand so nothing in it is a surprise.

Can I return my lease early?

Often, yes. Your options can include:

  • Early upgrade programs
  • Pull-ahead specials
  • A lease buyout combined with a trade-in

We look at every route to reduce or avoid penalties.

Credit and approval

What credit score do I need?

Lenders generally prefer good to excellent credit, and most approvals require a score around 650 or higher. Approval is always the lender's decision, not ours. We work with multiple lenders and with clients across a range of credit profiles, and we can often find a path forward for lower scores.

Can I lease through my business?

Yes. Business owners can lease through:

  • An LLC
  • A corporation
  • A sole proprietorship

A business lease may have tax advantages. Talk to your accountant about your case.

What if I have limited or challenged credit?

Options may still be available. A larger upfront payment or a co-signer can help, and we guide you to the lender most likely to approve your application.

Does applying affect my credit score?

Filling out our forms does not. Nothing on this website runs a credit check: your application is stored and sent to us, not to a credit bureau.

In some rare cases we may run a soft credit check, only so we can advise you correctly. A soft inquiry does not affect your score and is not visible to lenders.

When we submit your credit application to a lender for approval, the lender runs a hard inquiry. That does appear on your credit report and can affect your score.

Financing instead of leasing

How does auto financing work?

You take a loan to buy the car and own it once the loan is paid off. The payment depends on:

  • The loan amount
  • The interest rate
  • Your down payment
  • The term, usually 36 to 72 months
Is financing better than leasing?

It depends on how you live with a car.

Financing tends to be better if you want to own long-term, drive a lot, or want no mileage limit.

Leasing tends to be better if you want a lower payment, less commitment, and the newest models every few years.

Can I trade in my current car when financing?

Absolutely. Your trade-in value can lower the loan amount or serve as the down payment.

Can I refinance my auto loan later?

Yes. If rates drop or your credit improves, refinancing can lower your payment.

Trade-ins

Why should I send my vehicle information for a trade-in?

The details let us give you an accurate, market-based value for your car, so the offer is real rather than a guess, and so it reduces the payment on your next lease or purchase.

How is my trade-in value determined?

We look at:

  • Current market demand
  • Mileage
  • The car's condition
  • Service history
  • Any accident or damage records
  • Options and trim level

The result is a fair, competitive offer.

Can I trade in a leased vehicle?

Yes. Many clients trade in a leased car early and put the equity toward the next one.

Do you pick up my trade-in?

Yes. When we deliver your new car, we pick up the old one.

Delivery and process

Do you deliver the car to me?

Yes. We deliver to your home or office, anywhere in the United States.

What states do you serve?

All 50. We arrange secure, enclosed transport anywhere in the country.

Do I have to go anywhere in person?

No. We locate the car, negotiate, secure the approval and arrange delivery. You don't spend a Saturday on any of it.

How is the paperwork signed?

Online. E-signature and secure document upload, from your phone or your laptop.

Can I test drive before committing?

Yes. We can help arrange a local test drive, with no obligation.

Do you handle purchases too, or only leases?

We specialize in leasing, and we also handle financed purchases and trade-ins.

How long does the process take?

Once your information is in and approved, most deals are finalized within 24 to 72 hours, depending on availability. Delivery usually follows within one to five days of signing, depending on the car and where you are.

Do I need insurance before delivery?

Yes. The car has to be insured before it can be released to you. If you need help, we can point you to insurance partners.

Why work with a car concierge at all?

Because it:

  • Saves you time
  • Gets you better pricing
  • Handles the negotiation
  • Manages the paperwork
  • Gives you advice that isn't tied to one brand
  • Brings the car to you

It's the stress-free way to get a new car.

Other questions

Can I customize my leased car?
